Summary:The “Vademecum on Certain Points of Procedure in Treating Cases of Sexual Abuse of Minors Committed by Clerics” issued by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on 16 July 2020, points out in paragraph 157 that an accused cleric has the right to present a petition to the Holy Father to be dispensed from all obligations connected with the clerical state, including celibacy. It further states that the Ordinary is obligated to inform the accused cleric of this right. This is a sample of the rescript issued in response to such a petition.
