| Summary: | Among the conditions that the candidate to godfather or godmother at baptism of confirmation must meet is to carry a life consistent with the faith and with the mission that they are going to assume. The criteria of the child's parents or the adult who will be baptized or confirmed for choosing the appropiate person are fundamental. The role of the Bishop and of the parish priest are also important in order not to fall into extreme laxity or severity dictating standards and putting them into practice. The choice of who is going to be godfather or godmother should pursue the well-being of the cathecumen, so that they may have a proper guide in their Christian life. Although there might be conditions of life that excluded a person from being godfather or godmother, it is important to be cautious at the time of discerning pastorally those difficult situations. |
