Riepilogo: | "Many of the faithful in our diocese are most upset because Dr. Mary Frances, an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion in her parish, is the principal physician at a local Planned Parenthood clinic, and personally performs abortions. Our bishop has attempted to explain to her the Church's teaching on the intrinsic evil of abortion, the sinfulness of her activity, and the excommunication involved. She adamantly refuses to stop and maintains that she is helping women in crisis situations. Does the bishop have the authority to declare the excommunication found in c. 1398 in spite of c. 1425, §1 requiring a collegial tribunal for a penal trial declaration of an excommunication?" |
