Summary:The study intends to examine documentary evidance in ecclesiastical trials. To this end the meaning of the word "document" is analysed and ist value is considered with regard to witness evidence and the general requirements to enforce ist validity as evidence, namely ist authenticity and integrity. Afterwards the value of private document is examined, concentrating on ist probative value, especially when both the date and the author can be easily traced; finally also documents drawn up in advance with a mind to prove the nullity of a marriage in a future time taken into consideration
