| Sumario: | »Lumen gentium« is the heart of the Second Vatican Council. To understand this text is to understand the Council. The article suggests three steps for an initial adequate interpretation of »Lumen gentium«. The first step is to find a hermeneutical key for the whole of the Council. The second step considers the Council's history. This will touch the Council's and the church's heart, the event of God's mystery in history. The third step interprets the Council's single texts within the Council's context. This will reveal the Council's witness to the unity of salvation history because of God's will of universal salvation. |
