总结: | The current debates about the display of a crucifix in public buildings focus the larger discussions concerning the relationship between church and state. The political discussion seems to look at the cross as a symbol of the triumphal nature of Christianity, yet the traditions of both the NT and the OT suggest differently. With particular reference to the Fourth Servant Song (Isa 52) the symbolism of the cross refers to the admission of personal and collective guilt as well as to the hope God offers to the downtrodden. In the end it is a symbol of solidarity. |
