| Resumo: | Is "Bishop" a better Title for the Representative of a Protestant Church? On the Discussion in the United Church of Westfalia. The synod of this church which is the "Landeskirche" (established Protestants church of a region) in the West of Germany, a union of Lutheran and Reformed congregations, will discuss the question and finally decide on it. A proposal has been sent out to the congregations as a basis for discussing the matter. The author criticizes that in the discussion so far the pragmatic aspects are overemphasized and the one of visibility of difference to a hierarchical (Catholic) understanding of a bishop are underestimated. As a compromise the title of a "synodal bishop" is suggested. |
