Whakaahuatanga
Whakarāpopototanga:The declaration of the II Vatican Council for religious freedom is based on a new appreciation of the human person contrary to the traditional theories of state. In the increasing religious policy debates of the present the Catholic Church can therefore show commitment in universal religious freedom, the ethical framework of which remains to be defined. Controversially discussed is the broader question whether religious freedom should be followed by freedom of conscience. Moral theology already disagrees in the basic definition of freedom of the conscience. The article argues for a strengthening of personal morality and shows freedom of the conscience its place within the same.
