Summary: | The article presents the state of debate on crises of political representation and asks about the implications for the understanding of representation in ecclesiastical law. At first glance, the loss of importance of popular parties or the rise of right-wing populist movements have nothing to do with the self-organisation of the church. But a closer look shows that some of the causes of political crises of representation also affect the classic popular churches. This also leads to changes in synodal representation: through quotas or through participatory additions. As a result, it is more unclear than ever who or what synods represent in organised Protestantism. |
