Sumario:In the early modern period, the Inquisitors' proceedings were usually based on the theological analysis of propositions, set in a compley system of classification to justify verdicts on their validity. This paper focuses on heresy as the counterpart of faith, establishing citeria to accurately classify heresy in contrast to other theological qualifications. Based on these qualifications, subtle distinctions, and theoretical alternatives, this contribution aims to reveal the theological foundations of the Inquisitors' practice in Malta and elsewhere.
