Riepilogo:The challenges that face church ministry are the result of an ecclesial crisis, which arises not least from the fact that even fifty years after the Second Vatican Council there is still no consensus concerning the relationship between the common and the ministerial priesthood. This affects not only ecclesial self-identity, but also the identity of church ministers, and it results in general insecurity. A not uncommon result of this uncertainty is that the development of baptismal charisms, and thus also the common sending of all the baptized by Christ, continue to be set against a clericalisation of ecclesial ministry. What does the Council teach about the relationship between the common and the hierarchical priesthood, and how might the statements of the Council be transformed into a stringent and coherent theology of ministry?
