Summary: | At all times, the process of the canonizacion of Saints attempt to clarify the truth about the holiness of God's Servant. This article therefore wants to demonstrate chonologically the different proofs required and the manner to evaluate them. In the first Centuries, the proofs juridical considered did not exist. It was only from the eleventh Century that the process of canonization, and consequently the proofs, began to bear traits of juridical procedures in its real terms. The creation of the Congregation of Rites, the Urban VIII's reform, the matter's systematization by Prospero Lambertini (Benedict XIV), the Code of 1917, the Historical Section's set up, the present law of 1983, are the fruits of the consideration of holiness or martyrdom and intercessory power, heroic virtues, martyrdom and miracles. All these are proved by testimony of witnesses and by documentation |
